A road journey through Russia’s industrial heartland during the war.

This photo collection is part of the Oleg Klimov Photo Archive and brings together photographs from a road journey through the Urals — Russia’s industrial heartland — during the war.

The route passed through factory towns, mining settlements, industrial landscapes, cemeteries, damaged environments, roadside monuments, Soviet symbols and places where the official image of prosperity begins to disappear.

The photographs look at everyday life far from Moscow: workers, families, provincial streets, religious signs, memorials, ecological scars, military cemeteries and the quiet visual language of a country living through war.

For Oleg Klimov, the Urals are not only a geographic region or an industrial zone. They are also a landscape of memory, labor, extraction, survival and political silence — a place where the past and the present often appear in the same frame.

This collection is part of an ongoing documentary work. Public viewing is available online. High-resolution files are not available for direct public download, but access can be requested for editorial, research, exhibition or publishing purposes.
